Interesting that you’ve included a Holy Week service in your discovered music. When I was at Concordia I participated in this service which involves the extinguishing of candles on Good Friday symbolizing the darkness that overcame the earth at mid-day when Jesus was crucified. A very powerful and beautiful service - which is why I’m sure you have it here.
I once had the good fortune of singing this piece with a small chamber choir at St. John’s Cathedral in downtown Milwaukee (which offers an absolutely pristine acoustic for this kind of music.) It was a glorious experience, and then it was over. I haven’t thought about this music since then - actually even to the point of forgetting about it entirely. Now - voila! How wonderful to be reminded of it on this November night of thunder and rain - perfect!
THANK YOU, CARRIE.
